apostille

An apostille is an official certificate issued by a government authority that authenticates the origin of a public document for use in another country. It confirms that the document was issued by a recognized authority and that the signature, seal, or stamp on the document is genuine. Apostilles are used for international legal purposes between countries that are members of the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961. For a list of contracting parties follow the link below.

abridged certificate (short version)

An abridged civil document is a shortened version of an official civil record that contains only the most essential information. It is typically used for general identification purposes or where detailed background is not required. For example, an abridged birth certificate will likely omit the details of the named child's parents.

affidavit

An affidavit is a written statement of facts, voluntarily made by a person (called the affiant or deponent) and confirmed by oath or affirmation.

attestation

Attestation is the act of verifying, witnessing, and confirming the authenticity of a document by a person authorized to do so — such as a notary public, commissioner of oaths, lawyer, or a government official.

authenticated

Authentication of a document is the process by which a government authority confirms that a document is genuine and that the signatures, seals, or stamps on it are legitimate and valid.

It is typically used for international purposes, where one country needs to verify the origin or legitimacy of a document issued in another country.

civil documents

Civil documents are official records issued by a government authority that relate to a person’s legal identity, civil status, or legal rights. These documents are typically used for legal, administrative, or identification purposes.

unabridged certificate (long version)

An unabridged civil document is the full, official version of a government-issued record that includes comprehensive details about the event being documented — such as a birth, marriage, or death. It is legally recognized for international use and is often required for immigration, legal processes, and passport applications.

notarization

Notarization is the official process of certifying a document by a notary public, who is a legally authorized officer. It involves verifying the identity of the signer, confirming that they are signing willingly and knowingly, and then applying a notarial seal or stamp to the document.
